Leading with Purpose
At Fiji Airports (FA), sustainability is not just a responsibility; it is part of how we operate. Our dedicated Corporate Sustainability Team, led by Sustainability Officer works across every part of the organisation to integrate eco-friendly practices, reduce our carbon footprint, and foster a culture of environmental stewardship. From daily airport operations to long-term strategic planning, the team ensures that our commitments translate into tangible action, aligning with global standards while engaging staff, communities, and stakeholders in meaningful ways.
Our Corporate Commitment
Fiji Airports is committed to being environmentally conscious in all operations, striving for innovation and excellence as we transition towards a sustainable future. Our core priorities are:
- Reducing our carbon footprint through cleaner technologies and smarter operations.
- Embedding a culture of sustainability among our employees and stakeholders.
- Reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.
- Achieving the highest Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) Level 5 certification.

As the national gateway to Fiji and the Pacific, we believe climate action is a shared responsibility. By leading through example, we aim to balance economic growth with social and environmental well-being, ensuring aviation continues to connect people while protecting our planet.
Our Sustainability Initiatives
⮚ Solar Power: Domestic airports in Rotuma, Taveuni, Savusavu, and Labasa now operate primarily on solar energy. Solar also powers Nadi and Nausori’s electric vehicle charging stations, bird dispersal equipment, and estate streetlights.
⮚ Energy Efficiency: Airport terminals have been upgraded with LED lighting, smart Building Management Systems, and Energy Star-rated appliances.
⮚ In 2023, we procured 14 electric vehicles to replace part of our diesel fleet, all powered by solar.
⮚ Our carparks now operate on ticketless, paperless systems using licence plate scanning technology.
⮚ Updated procurement policies now prioritise green procurement principles, ensuring that all purchases support sustainable sourcing and minimise environmental impact.
⮚ Organic waste composted at Nadi International Airport is used in our plant nurseries.
⮚ Partnerships with South Pacific Waste Recyclers ensure proper paper recycling.
⮚ Single-use plastics are restricted in meeting rooms, replaced with reusable jars and cups.
⮚ Shift towards online forms is actively reducing paper consumption.
⮚ More than 8,300 mangrove seedlings were planted (June 2024–June 2025) as part of our Mangrove Restoration Project.
⮚ Two on-site nurseries provide indoor plants for airport terminals and offices, improving air quality.
⮚ Rainwater harvesting systems installed for nurseries.
⮚ Water purifiers installed at headquarters and airport terminals encourage the use of reusable bottles, cutting down single-use plastics.
Measuring Our Progress
Fiji Airports measures its carbon footprint annually in line with the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) programme. Our most recent assessment, independently verified by Cundall Consultants (Australia) in 2023, confirmed our progress towards global benchmarks.
We are proud to have achieved ACA Level 4 – Transformation, marking a significant milestone in our sustainability journey. Our next target is ACA Level 5, while working steadily towards our Net-Zero 2050 commitment.
Engaging Staff and Communities
Our approach to sustainability is inclusive. We involve both our employees and local communities in environmental and CSR activities, ensuring that everyone shares in the responsibility of protecting Fiji’s future.
