Gender, Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion

Fiji Airport is committed to fostering Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) across its operations. While facilities at these airports are modest due to their remote locations, efforts are being made to improve accessibility and inclusivity for all travellers. This includes providing basic assistance to travellers with mobility needs, ensuring respectful treatment of all passengers, and supporting the participation of women and people from diverse backgrounds within airport operations and local communities.

Community engagement is a key pillar, with airport management working alongside local stakeholders to identify barriers and promote inclusive practices. Although infrastructure limitations exist, there is an ongoing commitment to creating welcoming environments where everyone—regardless of gender, ability, or background—can access essential air services. These initiatives help strengthen the role of airports as vital connectors for remote Fijian communities, supporting broader goals of equity and inclusion. The role is lead by a GEDSI officer directly under the leadership of CEO.

Fiji Airports is consistently strengthening its commitment to Gender Equity, Diversity, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI), positioning these values as integral to its aspiration of becoming a world-class aviation hub in the Blue Pacific. Women currently hold 22% of leadership roles, with female representation in the full-time workforce increasing each year, including in technical and aeronautical positions where they have historically been under-represented. Within Air Traffic Management, women comprise 45% of the team. The organization employs four female engineers and has appointed Fiji’s first woman Instrument Flight Procedure (IFP) Designer endorsed by the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji (CAAF). These milestones reflect the implementation of inclusive recruitment practices, GEDSI-informed decision-making, and strengthened pathways supporting women’s career advancement.

Fiji Airports is enhancing its commitment to disability inclusion by partnering with Organizations of Persons with Disabilities and undertaking a comprehensive accessibility audit. The integration of GEDSI (Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion) principles into procurement, recruitment, training, and policy review processes reflects a dedication to fairness, accountability, and alignment with international standards. Progress in GEDSI initiatives is being achieved through collaborations with the Australian Pacific Partnerships for Aviation (P4A), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and other aviation and community stakeholders. With a strategic emphasis on inclusiveness and the Bula Experience, Fiji Airports’ GEDSI efforts prioritize care, respect, equity, and opportunity, ensuring that all individuals are welcomed and supported as the organization develops a secure and inclusive aviation gateway for Fiji.
